Eat ice cream, make snowmen Feb. 3 at Cultural Heritage Center

PIERRE, S.D. -- Whether there is snow on the ground or not, visitors to the Cultural Heritage Center can build three different snowmen and enjoy South Dakota State University ice cream on Museum Activity Day on Sunday, Feb. 3.

The event runs from 1-4 p.m. CST and all supplies are provided. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Materials for making three different snowmen will be available, including a standing snowman magnet, a clip-on snowman using a clothespin and a melted snowman magnet.

“Museum Activity Day is a great way to fend off the post-holiday blues,” said museum director Jay Smith. “Making a few snowmen and enjoying world-famous SDSU ice cream is a fine winter outing.”

There is also free admission to the museum that day. While there, visitors can stroll through the galleries and try their hand at building a T-town or sending a Morse code message on new interactive tables in the Proving Up section of the primary gallery. They can also enjoy the “Spirit of the 70s” exhibit in the Hogen Gallery and “From Jackrabbits to Schmeckfest: The Many Faces of Community Identity in South Dakota” in the Observation Gallery. 

The museum is open from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1-4:30 p.m. on Sundays and most holidays. Call 605-773-3458 for more information about exhibits, special events and upcoming activities or visit history.sd.gov.
