Names Released In Butte County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash
Where: U.S. Highway 85, mile marker 69
13 miles north of Belle Fourche, S.D.
When: 8:19 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021
Driver No. 1: Donald Helde, 79, Powers Lake, N.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2015 GMC Acadia
Driver No. 2: Bryon Angle, 46, Billings, MT, No Injuries
Vehicle: 2017 Freightliner Semi-truck and trailer
BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. – A Powers Lake, N.D., man has been identified as the person who died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash north of Belle Fouche.
A 2017 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer were southbound on U.S. Highway 85 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound 2015 GMC Acadia.
Donald Helde, the 79-year-old driver of the Acadia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bryon Angle of Billings, MT, the 46-year-old driver of the semi-truck and trailer, was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
Charges are pending against the semi-truck driver.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
