Names Released In Jones County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: Interstate 90, mile marker 189
Two miles west of Murdo, S.D.
When: 3:21 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021
Driver No. 1: Hailun Zhu, Wheeling, IL., 57, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Passenger: Youfan Wang, 64, Wheeling, IL., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Vehicle: 2017 Subaru Forester
Driver No. 2: Tatiana Latorre, 26, Bucaramanga, Colombia, Fatal Injuries
Passenger: Omaira Jacome, 48, Bucaramanga, Colombia, Life-Threatening Injuries
Vehicle: 2018 Hyundai Accent
MURDO, S.D. – A 26-year-old woman has been identified as the person who died last Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash west of Murdo.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2017 Subaru Forester was westbound on Interstate 90 when it left the roadway, went across the median and into the eastbound lanes where it collided head-on with a 2018 Hyundai Accent.
Tatiana Latorre, who was the driver of the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. Omaira Jacome, the 48-year-old female passenger, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Rapid City hospital. Both are from Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Both occupants of the Subaru received serious non-life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to the Pierre hospital. They were identified as Haliun Zhu, the 57-year-old female driver, and Youfan Wang, the 64-year-old male passenger. Both are from Wheeling, IL.
Charges are pending against the driver of the Subaru. All four people involved were wearing seat belts.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
