Names Released In Charles Mix County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: S.D. Highway 46, mile maker 278
Two miles east of Pickstown, S.D.
When: 10:41 p.m., Thursday, June 9, 2022
Driver No. 1: Sandra Wade, 76, Lake Andes, S.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2012 Chrysler Town & Country Minivan
Driver No. 2: Gage Matzen, 24, Tea, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Passengers: Cody Noe, 18, Colton, S.D., Minor Injuries
Hunter Anderson, 19, Renner, S.D., Minor Injuries
Vehicle: 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup
PICKSTOWN, S.D. – A Lake Andes, S.D., woman has been identified as the person who died late Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash east of Pickstown.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2012 Chrysler Town & County minivan was westbound on South Dakota Highway 46 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.
Sandra Wade, the 76-year-old driver of the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
All three male occupants of the pickup were injured. Gage Matzen of Tea, S.D., the 24-year-old driver, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to the Wagner hospital and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. The two passengers, ages 18 and 19, suffered minor injuries. The driver was wearing a seatbelt and seatbelt use by the passengers is under investigation.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
