Names Released In Grant County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: U.S. Highway 12, mile marker 380
10 miles west of Milbank, S.D.
When: 10:01 a.m., Monday, Nov. 7, 2022
Driver No. 1: Josephine Jacobawi, 28, Fargo, N.D., Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2008 Econoline Van
Driver No. 2: Joshua Hayes, 26, New London, MN, Life Threatening Injuries
Passenger: Robert Ulman, 26, Spicer, MN, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Vehicle: 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup
MILBANK, S.D. – A Fargo, N.D., woman has been identified as the person who died Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash west of Milbank.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2008 Econoline Van was eastbound on U.S. Highway 12 when it crossed the centerline into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Dodge Ram pickup. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.
Josephine Jacobawi, the 28-year-old driver of the van, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Joshua Hayes of New London, MN, the 26-year-old driver of the pickup, sustained life-threatening injuries. Robert Ulman of Spicer, MN, the 26-year-old passenger, received serious non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants were taken by ambulance to the Milbank hospital. Seatbelt use by both occupants is under investigation.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
