A state prison offender has died.

Offender Stephen Layton, age 61, passed away at the Jameson Annex to the South Dakota State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls on January 29.

Layton was serving sentences from Minnehaha County for aggravated assault and simple assault of a law enforcement officer.
