Hughes County Fatal Crash

Vehicle 1: 2010 Dodge Caravan

Pedestrian 1: Male, 60, fatal injuries

Hughes County, S.D.- A pedestrian suffered fatal injuries this morning in a single vehicle crash in Pierre, SD.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

Preliminary crash information indicates a 57-year-old male driver of a 2010 Dodge Caravan suffered a seizure and blacked out while driving. The vehicle left the road, striking a pedestrian before crashing into an apartment building. The pedestrian died as a result of their injuries. 

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
