Planned Temporary Road Closures Scheduled for U.S. Highway 385 Between Clear Creek Road and Horse Creek Road
HILL CITY, S.D. – On Wednesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 29, 2025, controlled rock blasting will occur as part of the U.S. Highway 385 construction project. Due to these scheduled detonations, one-hour road closures on Highway 385 will take place each day between Clear Creek Road and Horse Creek Road. The temporary one-hour road closure will occur between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A text message will be sent to Highway 385 project text-in subscribers once the roadway is reopened to traffic or if additional delays are expected.
Motorists are also reminded that a complete road closure is in place on Highway 385 between Be Still Road and Calumet Road on Highway 385. Access to Be Still Road will be maintained by the contractor for local residents with wait times estimated up to 15 minutes. The intersection of Highway 385 and Sheridan Lake Road remains open. This closure on Highway 385 between Be Still Road and Calumet Road is scheduled through Friday, June 13, 2025.
Detour Route:
The posted detour around the Highway 385 reconstruction project is S.D. Highway 44 and U.S. Highway 16. The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) recommends that travelers use the detour route and exercise caution when using non-maintained roadways.
Project Information:
Once completed, this section of Highway 385 will feature safety improvements, including wider shoulders on each side of the road where possible, improved road curves to meet current design standards, additional turning lanes to improve traffic flow, and new surfacing.
