Milling Work Scheduled to Begin on U.S. Highway 385 North of Sheridan Lake Road Near Hill City
HILL CITY, S.D. – During the week of Monday, June 16, 2025, construction crews will begin milling operations on U.S. Highway 385 from approximately one-half mile north of Sheridan Lake Road to Wrinkle Valley Road. Motorists can expect the use of flaggers and pilot cars throughout the construction area, as well as large machinery, narrowed driving lanes, increased noise and dust, and a loose gravel surface.
To avoid travel delays and driving on rough roadway surfaces, drivers are recommended to consider using an alternate route. The recommended Highway 385 detour is S.D. Highway 44 and U.S. Highway 16.
Once completed, this section of Highway 385 will feature safety improvements, including wider shoulders on each side of the road where possible, improved road curves to meet current design standards, additional turning lanes to improve traffic flow, and new surfacing.
