Governor Rhoden Announces Partnership of New Residential Treatment Program for Women to be Built in Yankton
YANKTON – Governor Rhoden announced that Avera Sacred Heart Hospital will be receiving $3.8 million in state general funds to construct a new 18-bed facility that will be used to serve women, including pregnant mothers and mothers with children, participating in residential substance use disorder (SUD) therapy. Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is the recipient after participating in a grant application request facilitated by the Department of Social Services (DSS). Funding was made available through SB196 which passed during the 2022 legislative session.
“This facility will support pregnant and young mothers struggling with addiction. It will prove a safe, supportive place for these mothers to receive clinical support for their addiction,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “This will allow the moms to focus on being the good mother that their kids deserve.”
Avera Sacred Heart Hospital will construct and own the facility and will partner with Lewis and Clark Behavioral Health Services to provide programs and services. The Department of Social Services has awarded this grant to Avera Sacred Heart after evaluating competitive applications. DSS will also accredit the treatment services to be delivered in the new facility.
“Ensuring there is access to residential treatment programs is vital for women facing substance use disorders as we look to strengthen communities,” said DSS Cabinet Secretary Matt Althoff. “These programs provide a safe, supportive environment where women can begin to heal, rebuild their lives, and access the comprehensive care they need to achieve long-term recovery."
"Avera is committed to serving our community's needs through meaningful and innovative solutions," said Victoria Hanson, PhD, Avera Sacred Heart Hospital Regional President & CEO. "We are grateful for Governor Rhoden and the State of South Dakota's support of this work and caring for this important population."
