Eighteen South Dakota Public Libraries Earn Accreditation
Pierre, S.D. -- In August 2025, eighteen public libraries across South Dakota were awarded accreditation, recognizing their commitment to providing high-quality services to their communities. These libraries have met important benchmarks and are accredited at one of three levels: Essential, Enhanced, or Exemplary.
To achieve accreditation, libraries must meet the South Dakota Public Library Standards in areas such as governance, administration, access, collections and resources, funding, staffing, technology, and public relations.
“By participating in this volunteer program, the staff and trustees of these libraries demonstrate their dedication to quality library services,” said State Librarian George Seamon. “I encourage everyone in these communities to visit their library and see what they have to offer.”
