PIERRE, S.D.– On October 16, 2025, Conrad Schmitt Studios will begin a Capitol repair and restoration project with plaster repairs on the third and fourth floors of the Capitol throughout the House and Senate areas, as well as the main hallway on the first floor. This project is expected to take approximately three months.
During the 2025 Legislative Session, HB 1131 was passed giving the Bureau of Human Resources and Administration (BHRA) $3,000,000 for “restoration, maintenance, and repair of any state capitol building historic area or object.”
“Now that the Capitol roofing project is completed and the leaks have been sealed up, we’re ready to repair years of water damage to the plaster moulding,” said BHRA Commissioner Darin Seeley.
The capitol will remain open during this time, but we are asking everyone to stay clear of the construction areas, both for their safety and for the safety of our contractors.
