Gov. Rhoden Updates BIT’s Name

PIERRE, S.D. – Yesterday, Governor Larry Rhoden signed Executive Order 2026-02 to officially rename the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications to the Bureau of Information and Technology (BIT).

“South Dakota continues to lead and innovate the technology space,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “By formally renaming BIT, we’re reaffirming our commitment to delivering efficient, technology-driven services for the people of South Dakota.”

BIT informally updated its name last year, so its website and scope of work already reflect this technology-forward focus. This Executive Order finalizes the change and has been filed with the Legislature in accordance with Article IV, Section 8 of the South Dakota Constitution.

The legal name change will take effect April 13, 2026.
