Pierre, S.D. – Student leaders from the Jobs for America’s Graduates South Dakota (JAG-SD) program will convene in Pierre on Thursday, Jan. 29, for an opportunity to see lawmaking in action. Students will meet legislators, lobbyists, policymakers, and other leaders while engaging in real conversations during their day at the State Capitol.

“JAG-SD turns challenges into opportunities for students facing barriers to success,” said Governor Rhoden. “I am pleased to welcome these young leaders to the Capitol and celebrate their strong efforts to achieve their fullest potential.

Throughout the day, students will observe several committee meetings, participate in conversations ranging from educational leadership to our judicial system, and receive recognition from the House and Senate floors.

“At JAG-SD, we emphasize the importance of civic engagement and leadership, which is why we created Capitol Conversations,” said Beth Schneider, Director of JAG-SD. “This event provides students with an immersive learning opportunity in government that can help them realize the true potential they hold.”

JAG is a national program with its own model consisting of a comprehensive set of services designed to keep young people in school through graduation and improve their success rates in education and career.
