Highway Patrol Announces February Sobriety Checkpoints

PIERRE, S.D. -
The South Dakota Highway Patrol will conduct sobriety checkpoints in 15 counties during the month of February. The checkpoints will take place in Brookings, Charles Mix, Codington, Davison, Jackson, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Pennington, Roberts, Sanborn, Stanley, Walworth and Yankton counties.

The monthly checkpoints are intended to discourage impaired driving. They are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Dakota Highway Patrol with assistance from local law enforcement agencies.

Officials remind drivers not to drink and drive, regardless of whether a checkpoint is scheduled in their county. Drivers who have been drinking are encouraged to designate a sober driver or use commercial or public transportation.

The Office of Highway Safety and the Highway Patrol are agencies of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
