Gov. Rhoden Signs Criminal Justice Bills into Law

 

PIERRE, S.D. – Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed four bills to strengthen criminal justice across South Dakota.

 

“In South Dakota, we uphold the rule of law,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “By updating these statutes, we are ensuring our justice system continues to serve the people, support victims, and keep our communities safe.”

 

The following four bills were signed into law:

 

  • HB 1012 revises and repeals provisions allowing probation for contempt of a custody or visitation decree;
  • HB 1013 clarifies the purposes permitted for certain offenders to operate a motor vehicle;
  • HB 1014 modifies the surcharge for a responding party in a forcible entry and detainer action; and
  • HB 1022 revises and repeals provisions related to the crime victims' compensation program.

 

Governor Rhoden has signed 70 bills into law and vetoed one this legislative session.
