Gov. Rhoden Signs Cell-Cultured Protein Compromise

Signs Nine Other Good Government Bills

 

PIERRE, S.D. – Today, Governor Larry Rhoden signed 10 bills that promote good government, including the cell-cultured protein compromise, SB 124, which is a prime example of good government in action.

 

“A good process makes for good government, and SB 124 is proof of that,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “By talking to producers, legislators, and other stakeholders, we worked together to chart a strong path forward. We will continue to prioritize open dialogue and commonsense solutions that deliver results for South Dakotans.”

 

Governor Rhoden previously charted a compromise on this matter, bringing together ag groups, legislators, and stakeholders on both sides of the issue.

Governor Rhoden also signed the following nine good government bills:

 

  • SB 35 revises the process for requesting a veteran's certificate of discharge from a county register of deeds;
  • SB 88 clarifies the procedure for a potential condemnor to examine real property absent the property owner's permission;
  • SB 176 amends the period of time before which ballots and other election materials may be destroyed following an election;
  • SB 177 clarifies the requirements for marking an optical scan ballot;
  • SB 237 requires that counties provide written notice to township supervisors of conditional use applications and appeals;
  • HB 1027 updates certain citations to federal regulations regarding pipeline safety inspections;
  • HB 1092 updates provisions pertaining to open records;
  • HB 1107 modifies restrictions on lands for certain public purposes; and
  • HB 1234 revises provisions related to serving a subpoena in a contested case.

 

Governor Rhoden has signed 144 bills into law and vetoed one this legislative session.
