The ceremony will be on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (CT) at the Akicita Mato Gymnasium (100 Same Boy Drive) in Fort Thompson.

This dedication is part of a statewide initiative established during the Noem-Rhoden Administration and expanded under Governor Rhoden. In partnership with the South Dakota Departments of Veterans Affairs, Military, and Transportation, the program establishes enduring tributes that honor service and serve as a lasting reminder to future generations.

The SD HWY 47 bridge over Lake Sharpe, southwest of Fort Thompson, will be dedicated as the PFC Alvin R. Spider bridge.

PFC Spider served with honor and distinction, and this dedication will ensure their legacy continues to inspire all who travel this roadway. SDDVA invites the public to attend and recognize this hero’s sacrifice and service to our nation.
