Passenger 2: 11-month-old male from Monticello, Minnesota, minor injuries, name not released

Passenger 3: 3-year-old male from Monticello, Minnesota, fatal injuries, name not released

Driver 2: Travis Richard Faulhaber, 54-year-old male from Plankinton, South Dakota, no injuries
Vehicle 2: 2012 Dodge Ram 2500

Brule County, S.D.- Two people died Monday in a two-vehicle crash near Kimball, South Dakota.

Preliminary crash information indicates Stephen Fletcher Clayton, the driver of a 2015 Honda Odyssey, was traveling eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 292. At the same time, Travis Richard Faulhaber, the driver of a 2012 Dodge Ram 2500, was traveling westbound pulling a stock trailer when a wheel came off the trailer. The wheel crossed the median and struck the Honda. Clayton and one of his passengers sustained fatal injuries. Katie Jayne Clayton sustained life threatening injuries. The Honda’s third passenger had minor injuries. Faulhaber was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing. All information released is preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
