Attorney General Jackley Joins Bipartisan Effort Urging

Congress to Pass Kids Online Safety Act

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley joins 44 other Attorneys General in urging Congress to pass the U.S. Senate version of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), legislation aimed at strengthening online protections for children and teens.

“I have promoted online safety through legislation that has been passed in South Dakota as well as the state’s $52 million settlement with Meta,” said Attorney General Jackley. “States are doing their part to protect children. Now it is up to Congress.”

The bipartisan group, in a letter to congressional leadership, expressed continued support for Senate Bill 1748. The bill would establish minimum safety standards for social media and gaming platforms while preserving states’ authority to enact and enforce laws protecting children from online harm.

In their letter, the attorneys general emphasized that the safeguards established through the Meta settlement, while significant, cannot provide consistent protections across the entire technology industry.
