2015 South Dakota Agriculture Bulletin is Available

PIERRE, S.D. – The latest information about agriculture in South Dakota will be available in the South Dakota Department of Agriculture booth at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron Sept. 3-7.

The information compiled in the 2015 South Dakota Agriculture Bulletin is a joint effort by SDDA, the South Dakota National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Decision Innovation Solutions (DIS) and South Dakota State University Extension (SDSU).

Data in the publication includes: crop production and yields, livestock, poultry inventory, agricultural income and profiles showing jobs generated and outputs derived from many agriculture industries.

Secretary of Agriculture Lucas Lentsch says, “The annual Agriculture Bulletin provides our industry with a year-by-year look at agriculture in our state. This data gives us a more complete picture of all the aspects of our industry.”

“These statistics are a compilation of the hundreds of reports issued by NASS each year,” says State Statistician Erik Gerlach. “Producers are selected through a standardized sampling process to provide information on acreages, production and livestock inventories. They submit their information primarily through the mail, online, by telephone or by personal interview. Information in the annual bulletin is summarized in individual reports throughout the year.”

“In a world of information overload, unbiased, science-based sources like this Agriculture Bulletin are becoming increasingly important in all aspects of agriculture,” said Barry Dunn, dean of the SDSU College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences. “This report takes into account the direct and indirect economic impacts of agriculture in our state.”
