Clark County Fatal Crash


What:   Two-vehicle crash
Where: 432nd Avenue and 167th Street, northwest corner of Garden City, S.D.

When:  4:10 p.m., Friday, Oct. 28, 2016


Driver No. 1:  Male, 60, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 1999 Freightliner Conventional FLD 120


Driver No. 2: Male, 53, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2001 Peterbilt Conventional 379


GARDEN CITY, S.D. – One person died Friday afternoon in a crash involving two semi trucks near Garden City.


The names of the two drivers are not being released pending notification of family members.


A 1991 Freightliner, pulling a cattle hauler loaded with cattle, was northbound on 432nd Avenue near the intersection with 167th Street. The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign, went into the intersection and collided with a westbound 2001 Peterbilt semi pulling an empty belly dump trailer.


The Freightliner eventually went into the ditch and was engulfed in flames. The male driver, 60, died at the scene. The male driver of the other semi, 53, was not injured.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies at the scene were the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Clark Fire/EMS and Garden City Fire/EMS.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
