Older Americans Month
PIERRE, S.D. - Gov. Dennis Daugaard has proclaimed May Older Americans Month (OAM) in South Dakota.
“Older South Dakotans have a unique knowledge and a breadth of insight that are tremendous assets to our state,” South Dakota Department of Human Services Division of Long Term Services and Supports Director Yvette Thomas said. “Every day provides a new opportunity to learn from our elders. Their experiences, adventures and life stories have shaped our communities and continue to enrich our lives.”
OAM aims to celebrate the many ways in which older adults make a difference in our communities. The 2018 theme is “Engage at Every Age.”
This statewide observation coincides with National Older Americans Month, a national awareness campaign that takes place each May.
