Haakon County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-vehicle fatal crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 14, mile marker 154

              Nine miles east of Philip, S.D.

When:   12:38 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2019


Driver No. 1: Male, 32, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries:

Passengers: Female, 36, Fatal Injuries

                      Male, 9, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

                      Female, 12, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries  

Vehicle: 2005 Chevrolet Silverado


Driver No. 2: Female, 30, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Ford Edge


PHILIP, S.D. – One woman died and three others were seriously injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash that occurred east of Philip.


Names of those involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.


A 2007 Ford Edge, pulling a boat on a trailer, was westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when it slowed down in an attempt to pull into a driveway. A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, which was also westbound, attempted to pass the first vehicle. The two vehicles collided. The Silverado tripped and rolled, eventually landing on its roof.


There were four passengers in the Silverado. A 36-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three occupants – the 32-year-old male driver and two passengers, a 12-yer-old female and a nine-year-old male, all received serious non-life threatening injuries. They were transported to the Philip hospital.


The 30-year-old female driver of the Ford Edge was not injured.


All of the people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. That section of U.S. Highway 14 was closed to traffic for a time.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
