 Names Released In Aurora County Fatal Crash



What:    Two-vehicle crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 281, mile marker 71

              Two miles east of Plankinton, S.D.

When:    2:40 p.m. Friday June 21, 2019


Driver No. 1: Larry Brink, Plankinton, S.D., 68, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passenger: Darold Brink, Clearwater, FL, 79, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer


Driver No. 2:  Dennis Ashwill, Dassel, MN, 76, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2012 Ford F250 Pickup


PLANKINTON S.D. – A Clearwater, FL man has been identified as the person who died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash that occurred last Friday afternoon near Plankinton.


A 2012 Ford F250 pickup was northbound on U.S. Highway 281 when a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer failed to yield after stopping at stop sign while going east on South Dakota Highway 16. The two vehicles collided.


All three occupants suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Darold Brink, the 79-year-old passenger of the Trailblazer, died Monday, June 24.


Larry Brink, 68, of Plankinton was the driver of the trailblazer. Dennis Ashwill, 76, of Dassel, MN, was the driver of the pickup. Both suffered serious non-life threatening injuries.


The two occupants in the Trailblazer were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the pickup was not.  Charges are pending against both drivers.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
