Dewey County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 212, mile marker 178

              One quarter of a mile west of Ridgeview, S.D.

When:  9:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019


Driver No. 1: Male, 61, Fatal Injuries

Passengers: Male, 16, Minor Injuries
Vehicle: 1994 Ford F350 Pickup


Driver No. 2: Male, 45, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Peterbilt Semi-truck


RIDGEVIEW, S.D. – One person died Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash west of Ridgeview.


Names of the three males involved are not being released pending notification of family members.


A Peterbilt semi-truck pulling an empty grain trailer was westbound on U.S Highway 212 and preparing to turn left when it was struck by a westbound 1994 Ford F350 pickup. The pickup slid into the north ditch and rolled.


The 61-year-old driver of the pickup, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old passenger in the pickup, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries. He was transported to a clinic in Eagle Butte. The 45-year-old driver of the semi-truck of the truck was not injured.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
