SD Special Schools Make Adjustments for COVID-19 Virus

PIERRE, S.D. –  In light of Governor Noem’s order to close K-12 schools next week, officials at the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the School for the Deaf are taking action.

Students at the School for the Blind and Visually Impaired will be leaving campus by 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14, and will have an extended spring break.  All home and school visits by outreach consultants are temporarily suspended.

The School for the Deaf will also temporarily suspend home and school outreach visits, and both audiology labs will temporarily suspend operation.  The online American Sign Language class will continue Thursday, March 19 at 6 p.m.

Both facilities will be closed for the week of March 16 for cleaning. Employees will work remotely, if possible.

The state of South Dakota maintains updated information and guidance on its COVID-19 website at COVID.SD.GOV.
