Names Released In Roberts County Fatal Crash


WHAT:  Pedestrian-Vehicle Crash

Where:  Interstate 29, mile marker 232

              One-half mile north of Sisseton, S.D.

When:   10:22 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2020


Driver: Micah Reis, 19, Sioux Falls, S.D., No Injuries

Passengers: Male, 19, No Injuries

                       Male, 43, No Injuries

                       Female, 14, No Injuries

                       Male,  13, No Injuries

                       Male,  13, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 GMC Yukon


Pedestrian: Cornelius Kirk, Jr., Rice Lake, WI, 46, Fatal Injuries


SISSETON, S.D. – A Rice Lake, WI man has been identified as the person who died late Friday night in a pedestrian-vehicle crash north of Sisseton.


A 2007 GMC Yukon was northbound in the driving lane when it hit 46-year-old Cornelius Kirk, Jr., who was walking partially on the roadway and the shoulder of the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.


The six occupants of the Yukon were not injured. No charges are pending against the 19-year-old female driver, Micah Reis of Sioux Falls.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this point.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
