PIERRE, S.D. – During the week of Aug. 30 through Sept. 5, a total of 536 initial weekly claims for state unemployment benefits were processed by the Department of Labor and Regulation. This is a decrease of 94 claims from the prior week’s total of 630.

 A total of $1.4 million was paid out in state benefits, in addition to $1.5 million in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), $586,000 in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) and $101,000 in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits.

The Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund balance was $121.5 million on Sept. 6.

The latest number of continued state claims is 9,272 for the week ending Aug. 29, a decrease of 1,506 from the prior week’s total of 10,778. This indicates the number of unemployed workers eligible for and receiving benefits after their initial claim.

  • Regular State = $78.9 million
  • FPUC = $202.5 million
  • PUA = $12.7 million
  • PEUC = $1.4 million

Total = Approximately $295.5 million
