Explore South Dakota Virtually with New Online Learning Resources

PIERRE, S.D. – As families across the nation continue to make decisions about virtual learning and travel experiences, the South Dakota Department of Tourism has developed flexible and unique virtual learning opportunities to experience South Dakota from home.

The Department of Tourism recently released an online lesson program for kids and families on TravelSouthDakota.com. There are eight pages devoted to the icons, wildlife, people and history of South Dakota, each featuring games and activities that the entire family can enjoy.

“These online lesson programs provide an opportunity to educate children and adults alike about our state’s Great Faces and Great Places,” said Governor Kristi Noem. “We hope that they are used as a tool to engage families and inspire them to explore our great state.”

Whether a family is looking for additional content for their virtual learning school program or a way to educate themselves about the state before a vacation, these lessons provide an engaging way to learn more about South Dakota. The online lesson homepage can be found here.

The Department of Tourism has also partnered with Badlands National Park to promote their virtual Junior Ranger program. Once the virtual exploration is complete, kids can become official Badlands National Park Junior Rangers. These experiences allow South Dakota and its great natural resources to be brought into households utilizing the great asset of the National Park Service staff’s vast knowledge and perspective on natural wonders in our state. The Department of Tourism hopes that these virtual assets are of immediate value to families while also inspiring future travel to the state. The launch of these two new programs is the latest effort by the Department of Tourism to grow awareness of the state’s great assets.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism is comprised of Tourism and the South Dakota Arts Council. The department is led by Secretary James D. Hagen.
