Name Released In Davison County Fatal Crash



What:  One-vehicle crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 37, mile marker 64

              Two miles northwest of Ethan, S.D.

When:   7:11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020


Driver: Matthew Hopkins, 36, Mitchell, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2009 Honda Civic


ETHAN, S.D. – A Mitchell, S.D., man has died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday, Oct. 7, near Ethan.


A 2009 Honda Civic was southbound on South Dakota Highway 37 when the vehicle went off the roadway into the west ditch. The vehicle eventually hit a power pole.


Matthew Hopkins, who was the 36-year-old driver, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He suffered life threatening injuries. He died Tuesday, Oct. 20, in a Sioux Falls hospital.


South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. All information is only preliminary at this time.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
