PUBLIC NOTICE OF HIGH RISK INMATE RELEASE

November 19, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PUBLIC NOTICE OF HIGH RISK INMATE RELEASE

PIERRE, S.D.- Corrections Secretary Mike Leidholt is providing notification to law enforcement and the public about the pending release of a state prison inmate.

Inmate Zachary Krueger, age 28, is currently serving a 6-year, 6-month, 25-day sentence from Minnehaha County for sexual contact with a person incapable of consenting.

Pursuant to Krueger’s judgment of conviction, his sentence will expire on Nov. 20, 2020. Because he will have completed his full sentence, Krueger must be released from prison. He will not be under supervision, such as parole. DOC does not have jurisdiction to supervise an offender who has completed their entire sentence inside the prison.

“Based on his criminal history, institutional disciplinary record and institutional assessments that indicate a high risk for committing future acts of violence, I am alerting law enforcement and the public of this offender’s pending release from prison,” said Leidholt.

This specific notification is in addition to the letters currently sent to law enforcement and notices provided to the Division of Criminal Investigation each month.

Krueger has indicated he plans to live out-of-state upon his release but could stay in South Dakota. He is white, 6-feet-1 inches tall and weighs approximately 220 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Since 2011, the Department of Corrections has issued a total of 11 public notices of pending high risk inmate releases and one public notice of a high-profile inmate release.
