Names Released In Pennington County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 79, mile marker 64

              Five miles north of Hermosa, S.D.

When:   2:21 p.m., Thursday, March 4, 2021


Driver No. 1: Jeremy Larson, 32, Sturgis, S.D., No Injuries

Vehicle: 2009 Peterbilt 320 Garbage Truck


Driver No. 2: Rebecca Conca, 56, Hermosa, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Toyota Rav4


HERMOSA, S.D. – A 56-year-old Hermosa, S.D., woman has been identified as the person who died Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash north of Hermosa.


Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2009 Peterbilt 320 garbage truck was northbound on South Dakota Highway 79 when it started to turn right onto Daughenbaugh Road. A 2007 Toyota Rav4, which was also northbound on South Dakota Highway 79, rear ended the truck.


Rebecca Conca, who was driving the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. Seat belt use is unknown.


Jeremy Larson of Sturgis, S.D., the 32-year-old driver of the truck, was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
