Names Released In Jones County Fatal Crash


What:    One-Vehicle Fatal Crash

Where:  Interstate 90, mile marker 200

              Seven miles east of Murdo, S.D.

When:   8:35 p.m., Sunday, April 4, 2021


Driver: Anthony Browning, 34, Delhi, CA, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passengers: Christina Bedford, Modesto, CA, 33, Fatal Injuries

                       Male, 12, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

                       Female, 9, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

                       Female, 10, Minor Injuries

                       Male, 3, Minor Injuries

                       Female, 15, Minor Injuries

                       Female, 8, Minor Injuries

                       Female, 11, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2002 Chevy Suburban


MURDO, S.D. – A Modesto, CA woman has been identified as the person who died Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday night east of Murdo. Eight other people were injured.


Preliminary crash information indicates a 2002 Chevy Suburban, pulling a trailer, was eastbound on Interstate 90 when the driver, 34-year-old Anthony Browning of Delhi, CA, lost control. The vehicle and trailer went into the ditch and rolled.


All nine occupants were injured and taken to hospitals in Chamberlain and Pierre and later transferred to Sioux Falls. Christina Bedford, a  33-year-old passenger who had been thrown from the vehicle, later died as a result of her injuries at a Sioux Falls hospital.


Seat belt use for all of the occupants is under investigation.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
