Campus and Community Representatives
to Assist in NSU Presidential Search

PIERRE, S.D. – Campus and community representatives have been appointed to assist the South Dakota Board of Regents in its search for the next president at Northern State University.

“These individuals play an important role in the search process, helping to select candidates to be interviewed as we look for the next president to lead Northern State University forward,” said Regent Jim Thares, who will chair the search process. Other regents on the search committee are Pam Roberts and Joan Wink, with Regents President John W. Bastian serving in an ex-officio capacity.

Named as campus and community representatives and the constituencies they represent are:

  • Community—Robert Fouberg, president and CEO of Dacotah Bank.
  • NSU Foundation—Michael Bockorny, CEO of Aberdeen Development Corp.
  • Alumni—Eric Payne, sales agent with Insurance Plus
  • Administration—Veronica Paulson, vice president for finance and administration
  • Civil Service Employees—Judy Lapka, program assistant in the Office of Academic Affairs
  • Non-Faculty Exempt Employees—Susan Bostian, human resources director
  • Faculty—Jon Mitchell, associate professor of biology and director of the NSU Biotechnology Program; Anna Schwan, assistant professor of education
  • Students—Emily Meier, junior political science and history major; Isaiah Nolan, junior human performance and sports marketing major
  • Institutional Collaboration—Laurie Nichols, president of Black Hills State University
  • At-Large—Josh Moon, NSU director of athletics

The NSU presidential search webpage is now live, which includes position advertisement and leadership profile. Nominations for the position are welcome and may be submitted to nsupresident@sdbor.edu. Brian L. Maher, the regents’ executive director and CEO, said every effort is being made to have a new president on board by the fall semester. Former President Timothy M. Downs announced his resignation last month to pursue a new opportunity in higher education.
