Celebrate 605 Day Across South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. – June 5 is more than just a day in South Dakota. It’s 605 Day!  On Saturday, June 5, 2021, join the South Dakota Department of Tourism in celebrating the sixth annual 605 Day.

“This past year, South Dakota had a tremendous opportunity to showcase everything that makes our state special,” said Governor Kristi Noem. “605 Day gives South Dakotans a chance to celebrate this beautiful place that we call home and to remind everyone else of the freedom and fresh air that awaits them when they come visit our state.”

To celebrate, the Department of Tourism encourages people to tag social media posts with #605Day to inspire, connect, and highlight the “Great Faces, Great Places” of South Dakota. 605 Day Zoom backgrounds, greeting cards, South Dakota fun facts and itinerary ideas can be found at TravelSouthDakota.com/605-Day. The department is encouraging communities and businesses to create their own engaging 605 Day social media posts to promote their Great Place in ‘the 605.’

Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Tourism Jim Hagen said he’s looking forward to another great 605 Day.

“The department initiated the 605 Day celebration in 2016, and we have loved seeing South Dakota fans embrace this special day year after year as they share their pride in our state,” said Hagen. “South Dakota is known for many unique qualities, but having one area code to unite residents is a wonderful rallying point.”

“We can’t wait to see how people celebrate South Dakota and its beautiful places on June 5th,” said Hagen.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism is encouraging local businesses, chambers of commerce, and attractions to get involved and plan their own 605 Day events or promotions. For tools on how businesses and organizations can celebrate, please see SDVisit.com/605-Day.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism is comprised of Tourism and the South Dakota Arts Council. The department is led by Secretary James Hagen.
