Inmate Wesley Hammond placed on escape status

HURON, S.D.- A state prison inmate has been placed on escape status.

Inmate Wesley Hammond left a housing unit for minimum-security inmates in Huron without authorization Sept. 5.

Hammond is serving sentences for unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance from Hughes County and possession of a controlled substance from Davison County.

Hammond, age 28, is a Black male. He is 6-feet-two-inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

If you see Hammond or know of his whereabouts, contact law enforcement immediately.

Leaving an assigned housing unit without authorization constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
