 Fall River County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-Vehicle Fatal Crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 79, mile marker 28

              12 miles northeast of Hot Springs, S.D.

When:   10:38 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021


Driver No. 1: Female, 50, Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Motorcycle


Driver No. 2: Male, 70, No Injuries

Vehicle: 2019 Honda Pilot


HOT SPRINGS, S.D. – One person died late Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash northeast of Hot Springs.


Names of the two people involved are not being released pending notification of family members.


Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle was southbound on South Dakota Highway 79 when the motorcycle struck a deer that had ran onto the roadway. The 50-year-old driver was thrown from the motorcycle into the southbound driving lane. She was then struck by a southbound 2019 Honda Pilot which could not avoid hitting her.


The motorcycle driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 70-year-old male driver of the Honda, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
