Names Released In Lincoln County Fatal Crash

 

What:    Pedestrian-Vehicle Fatal Crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 115, mile marker 75

              One mile west of Harrisburg, S.D.

When:   10:40 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021

 

Driver: Heather Brooks, 39, Sioux Falls, S.D., No Injuries

Vehicle: 2009 Chevy Equinox

 

Pedestrian: Bret Butcher, Anchorage, Alaska, 24, Fatal Injuries

 

HARRISBURG, S.D. – An Anchorage, Alaska man has been identified as the person who died late Saturday night in a pedestrian-vehicle fatal crash near Harrisburg.

 

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2009 Chevy Equinox was northbound on South Dakota Highway 115 when it struck Bret Butcher, 24, who was walking southbound in the northbound lane of travel. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Heather Brooks, 39, of Sioux Falls, S.D., was the vehicle driver. She was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

 

No charges are pending.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
