 Names Released In Hutchinson County Fatal Crash

 

What:    Two-Vehicle Crash

Where:  South Dakota Highway 44, mile marker 362

              13 miles east of Parkston, S.D.

When:   4:05 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021

 

Driver No. 1: Morgan Edelman, 19, Menno, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2014 Chevrolet Cruz

 

Driver No. 2: Ronald Hoeltzner, Sr., 59, Platte, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passenger: Terri Gunderson, 51, Platte, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2007 Ford Mustang

 

 

PARKSTON, S.D. – A Platte, S.D., woman has been identified as the person who died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash east of Parkston.

 

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz was westbound on South Dakota Highway 44 when the driver failed to follow a roadway curve and the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane. It collided with an eastbound 2007 Ford Mustang.

 

Terri Gunderson, the 51-year-old passenger in the Mustang, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 59-year-old Ronald Hoeltzner, Sr., of Platte, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Parkston hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.

 

Morgan Edelman, 19, of Menno, S.D., was the female driver of the Chevrolet, She suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Parkston hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt.

 

Charges are pending against both drivers.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

 

The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
