DANR Announces a $123 Million Loan for City of Sioux Falls Water Reclamation Facility Improvements

 

PIERRE, S.D. – Today, the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) announced the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved a $123,000,000 Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) loan for the City of Sioux Falls to make water reclamation facility improvements.

 

The loan will be administered through the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Loan terms are 2.0 percent for 20 years.

 

“I am pleased the City of Sioux Falls will receive this assistance,” said Gov. Kristi Noem. “This loan will help the city make needed improvements to its water reclamation facility to meet increasing demand and provide enhanced environmental protection.”

 

The Sioux Falls Water Reclamation Facility was constructed in the 1980’s and was originally designed for an average daily flow of 13.4 million gallons per day (MGD) and a peak flow of 27 MGD. Current estimates project a need for an average daily flow of 30.1 MGD and a peak flow of 57 MGD. The loan will help the city meet the anticipated demand by increasing the capacity for growth at the reclamation facility and improve treatment operations.

 

The total estimated project cost is approximately $194,500,00 and Sioux Falls has previously received $60,125,000 in CWSRF loans for the project. DANR anticipates Sioux Falls will request additional CWSRF loans to fully fund the project.

 

The State of South Dakota and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency fund the CWSRF Program, which provides low-interest loans for wastewater, storm water, water conservation, and nonpoint source projects. The program is funded through a combination of federal appropriations, loan repayments, and bonds.
