Names Released In Clay County Fatal Crash


What:    Two-Vehicle Crash

Where:  S.D. Highway 19, mile marker 8

              Six miles north of Vermillion, S.D.

When:   9:06 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2021


Driver: Tina Jensen, 47, Vermillion, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2013 Ford Escape


Driver: Jarrod Johnson, 45, Beresford, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2005 Peterbilt Semi-truck



VERMILLION, S.D. –  A Vermillion, S.D., woman has been identified as the person who died Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle crash north of Vermillion.


Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2013 Ford Escape was northbound on South Dakota Highway 19 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2005 Peterbilt semi-truck and trailer.


Both drivers were transported by ambulance to the Vermillion hospital.


Tina Jensen, the 47-year-old driver of the Ford, died as a result of her injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.


Jarrod Johnson of Beresford, S.D., the 45-year-old driver of the semi, suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
