Stork Retires from Board of Regents’ Service

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Regents announced today that Barb Stork of Dakota Dunes has retired from her position on the board.

“I was very honored to be asked by Gov. Noem, and thank her for the opportunity, to serve on the Board of Regents. It was a privilege to work in any way that I could toward the betterment of our students’ education,” Stork said. “My great admiration for the governor makes this a difficult decision; however, it is time for me to direct my time to other interests.”

Stork’s retirement from the Board of Regents is effective immediately. Gov. Kristi Noem will name a successor as soon as possible to complete Stork’s term, which ends in 2025.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Regent Barb Stork,” said Brian L. Maher, the regents’ executive director and CEO. “In her nearly three years on the board, Regent Stork brought a business approach to the board that continues to pay dividends to the people of South Dakota. Specifically, her work and leadership on the Senate Bill 55 Task Force made an impact on how the business of the Board of Regents will be handled well into the future. We thank her for her service and wish her well as she retires from the board.”

Stork was appointed in July 2019 to the Board of Regents, the constitutional governing body for South Dakota’s six public universities and two special K-12 schools. She founded Midwest Provisions Inc., a multi-million-dollar contract food service company and served as its CEO from 1989 to 2016. She is a past chair of the Sanford Health Board of Trustees and past chairwoman of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
