 Name Released In Kingsbury County Fatal Crash


What:    One-Vehicle Crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 14, mile marker 375

              Two miles west of De Smet, S.D.

When:   7 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2022


Driver No. 1: Michael Harger, 58, De Smet, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2004 Ford F250 Pickup


De SMET, S.D. –  A De Smet, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died early Saturday morning in a one-vehicle crash west of De Smet.


Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2004 Ford F250 pickup was westbound on U.S. Highway 14 when the driver lost control due to icy road conditions. The vehicle went across the roadway into the north ditch and rolled.


Michael Harger, the 58-year-old driver, was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
