 Names Released In Fall River County Fatal Crash


What:    Three-Vehicle Crash

Where:  U.S. Highway 18, mile marker 15

              Three miles east of Edgemont, S.D.

When:    5:01 p.m., Sunday, May 22, 2022


Driver No. 1: Bobbi Jo Kammerer, 19, Philip, S.D., Minor Injuries

Vehicle: 2008 GMC Sierra Pickup


Driver No. 2: Robert Stevens, 57, Edgemont, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2011 Toyota Tundra


Driver No. 3: Curtis Miller, 53, Benton, TN, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passengers:  Jerry Miller, 58, Copperhill, TN, No Injuries

                      Melissa Miller, 43, Benton, TN, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

                      Mary Miller, 57, Copperhill, TN, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup



EDGEMONT, S.D. –  An Edgemont, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Sunday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash east of Edgemont.


Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2011 Toyota Tundra was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18 when it slowed down to make a left-hand turn onto Red Canyon Road. The Toyota was rear-ended by an eastbound 2008 GMC Sierra pickup. The collision sent the Toyota into the westbound lane where it was struck by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup and tipped over.


Robert Stevens, the 57-year-old driver of the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.


Curtis Miller, the 53-year-old driver of the Chevrolet pickup, and Mary Miller, a 57-year-old passenger, both suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. Both were air transported to a Rapid City hospital. The other female passenger, 43-year-old Melissa Miller, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was hospitalized. Jerry Miller, the 58-year-old passenger, was not injured. All four occupants are from Tennessee and all were wearing seatbelts.


Bobbi Joe Kammerer of Philip, S.D., was 19-year-old driver of the GMC pickup. She sustained minor injuries and was not transported. She was wearing a seatbelt.


South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.


The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
