Turner County Fatal Crash
What: Two-Vehicle Crash
Where: Intersection of 276th Street and 461st Avenue
One mile north of Chancellor, S.D.
When: 8:31 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2022
Driver No 1: Male, 18, Fatal Injuries
Vehicle: 2008 Chevrolet Colorado Pickup
Driver No 2: Male, 62, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries
Vehicle: 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan
CHANCELLOR, S.D. – One person died Monday night in a two-vehicle crash north of Chancellor.
The names of the two people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was eastbound on 276th Avenue when the driver failed to stop at the intersection with 461st Avenue. The pickup collided in the intersection with a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan that was northbound on 461st Avenue.
The 18-year-old male driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. The 62-year-old male driver of the Grand Caravan sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Seatbelt use for both drivers has not yet been determined.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
