 Names Released In Turner County Fatal Crash

 

What:    Two-Vehicle Crash

Where:  Intersection of 276th Street and 461st Avenue

              One mile north of Chancellor, S.D.

When:   8:31 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2022

 

Driver No 1: Mason Jacobson, 18, Sioux Falls, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2008 Chevrolet Colorado Pickup

 

Driver No 2: Steve Fett, 62, Lennox, S.D., Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Vehicle: 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan

 

CHANCELLOR, S.D. –  A Sioux Falls man has been identified as the person who died Monday night in a two-vehicle crash north of Chancellor.

  

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup was eastbound on 276th Avenue when the driver failed to stop at the intersection with 461st Avenue. The pickup collided in the intersection with a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan that was northbound on 461st Avenue.

 

Mason Jacobson, the 18-year-old driver of the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

 

Steve Fett, 62, of Lennox, was the driver of the Grand Caravan. He sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. His seatbelt use is under investigation.

 

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

 

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
